6-8 pm Solar fire: The sun salutations
Known in Sanskrit as the Surya Namaskara, the Sun Salutations awaken the deep fire of purification that cleanses the body and clears the mind. Delve into a detail oriented breakdown of the Sun Salutations and understand these simple movements as the basis for deep backbends, powerful handstands and easy hip opening. Sri K. Pattabhi Jois always said that the entire yoga practice is contained within the format of the Sun Salutations. Join this workshop and understand how a conscious practice of the Sun Salutations will unlock the keys to a graceful, effortless practice.
10 am Dig down to lift up:
The journey of strength in the yoga practice unlocks sleeping inner pathways to the discovery of your true self. In this class use the vehicle of jumping back, jumping through and lifting up to access an inner fortitude beyond your limits. With the careful cultivation of core strength and activation of healthy strength alignment in your shoulder girdle you will discover a deep reservoir of power. Try out challenging postures and develop faith in your ability to one day master them.
1:30-3:30 pm Yoga therapy
Pain is an unfortunate and often unavoidable occurrence in life. Yoga is a path of healing. In this class you will address common yoga injuries and learn how to use the practice as a therapeutic space. With a small change in mindset and technique, you will discover a new way to move and ultimately love your body. Expect technique, discussion and mild practice.
10 am Ashtanga yoga full primary series
Surrender to the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method with careful emphasis on the traditional vinyasa method and have fun along the journey. Experience the integrity and purity of the Ashtanga Yoga practice and be prepared to sweat.
1:30-3:30 pm Twist into your center
Deep twisting increases energy levels, cleanses the body and opens the mind to new levels of awareness. Find the perfect balance between activation and release in this new approach to twisting. Learn healthy technique to increase flexibility in your spine and shoulders while creating solid foundation in your pelvis. Use the core strength of the body to support the twisting and extension. You will have fun with many levels of twists and even use the twisting position to enter some challenging arm balances!
